French Studies
Lake Superior State University’s Bachelor of Arts in French Studies has been designed to provide students with a valuable marketable formation for a variety of careers where language proficiency and cultural awareness are increasingly in demand. As a second major, it will add weight to any specialization in science as well as in the Arts.
A Success Venture
The lack of similar degree in the broad geographic area served by LSSU has led to several requests for such a program, and it is clear that our location on the boarder of bilingual Canada offers an ideal opportunity to attract both American and Canadian students. Contacts taken with various French universities demonstrate the realistic possibility of broadening the scope of LSSU international vocation.
An Expertise in Demand
The need for expertise in French and Francophone Cultural Awareness cannot be overemphasized in the perspective of modern global economic outreach. The B.A. in French Studies offers students a wider range of employment opportunities should they choose to further their education in view of a career in teaching, translation/interpretation, business, government, technology, etc. Furthermore, the uniqueness of this degree lies in its four specific complementary components: language, literature, business and civilization.
Expanding the Outreach
The idea of a BS in French for Business and International Trade was the result of consultation with LSSU Business Department, the main objective of such a degree being to provide students with the competency and the related advantages of two well-balanced, complementary fields of concentration as well as the practical experience of a valuable internship in a multicultural business environment. Such programs have proven to be highly attractive to francophone nationals from Europe and the rest of the world eager to obtain degrees from US universities.
