Writing Across the Peninsula Conference October 19th, 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM
Organization Arts & Sciences
Description

LSSU presents the third annual Writing Across the Peninsula, a conference for those who teach writing and are looking for new ideas and approaches for teaching it well. This year, our two speakers will examine issues of diversity and race in the writing classroom. Dr. Kristin Arola from Washington State University will be speaking on "Rethinking Multi-modal Composition through Anishinaabe Teachings," and Prof. Julia Landsman from Minneapolis, whose recent book, "Growing Up White: A Veteran Teacher Reflects on Racism," informs her talk, will be speaking on "The Imperative of Stories: Our Students', Our Own, and Where They Converge." In addition, 10 panels of teachers and graduate students from Upper and Lower Peninsula colleges and high schools will be presenting research and projects and the conference will offer multiple opportunities for interaction and discussions with all presenters. High school faculty who attend the entire conference are eligible for 2.5 CEUs. Please review our roster of speakers and events at writingacrossthepeninsula2012.weebly.com Registration is only $30 for full-time faculty or $20 for students, and is available online through the website. The registration fee includes the Thursday evening reception of "Food and the Arts" in the LSSU Arts Center, as well as a continental breakfast and buffet lunch on Friday.
