Resources for Commuter Students

Living off-campus? Getting involved is just as important, if not more so! Take advantage of the many opportunities to connect with other students like you and find common ground. Have questions on off-campus life? Check out these resources for commuters. If you have any questions or suggestions on how to improve this page, please email us at cschmitigal@lssu.edu.

Off-Campus Housing

The Michigan Legislature offers the following information regarding tenants and landlords.
Tenants & Landlords: A Practical Guide (.pdf)

Parking

All students, faculty, & staff must register their vehicle and obtain a parking permit. Students can register on-line; you will need your driver’s license and your vehicle license plate number. To register on-line, log into My.LSSU. Click on “Vehicle Registration” within the LSSU Web Services Channel and enter your user ID and password. Click Register your Vehicle Now! Select a full year parking permit or a semester parking permit. Your student account will be charged with this amount. Verify that all information is correct and submit. Your parking decal will be mailed to you prior to the beginning of the school year. Your vehicle will be registered at LSSU’s Public Safety Department. If you have any questions, or concerns, you may e-mail parking@lssu.edu.

Commuters may park in lots A, B, & N; senior commuting students may also park in lot E. Check the campus map for locations and always check the parking rules & regulations for any changes.

Meal Plans

There are many benefits to purchasing a meal plan even if you don't live on campus. With access to meals in the Quarterdeck, our all-you-can eat cafeteria on the main level of the Walker Cisler Student & Conference Center, and the opportunity to dine in any of our on-campus locations, look into the choices offered by Sodexho to make life easier for you while you're at LSSU. Meal plan information is available here.

Lockers

Lockers for students, faculty, and staff are available in the lower level of the Cisler Center on a first-come, first-served basis. Please bring your own lock and be sure to use it! The University assumes no liability for items stored in lockers. Lockers must be cleaned out and locks removed at the end of the academic year.

Commuter Connections

Are you interested in forming a commuter student organization? If so, we'd love to help you get that off the ground! Please e-mail Sharmay M. Wood, Associate Director of Campus Life at smwood@lssu.edu with any suggestions for starting this important student organization.
