A RESOLUTION TO: Allocate funding to provide for a student letter-writing campaign to members of the Michigan State Legislature.
WHEREAS, Lake Superior State University continues to face budgetary concerns; and
WHEREAS, The state of Michigan has cut funding to higher education four times since 2002; and
WHEREAS, Lake Superior State University is the smallest public university in the state of Michigan and therefore cannot compensate for these cuts as easily as other state universities; and
WHEREAS, It is in the best interest of the student body to make these concerns known to the Michigan legislature; be it therefore
RESOLVED, That the Lake Superior State University Student Government allocates up to $90.00 and set aside up to 200 Student Government envelopes and 200 sheets of LSSU letterhead for a student letter-writing initiative; and further
RESOLVED, That this letter-writing campaign will have the goal of increasing awareness of—and understanding for—Lake Superior State University’s diverse programs and unique situation in the hopes that the legislature will take this into consideration when dealing with future budgetary issues related to higher education.
