The LSSU Dance Company is sponsoring their 3rd Annual "Festival of Trees" Silent Auction Fund Raiser
Friday, December 6th at 7:00 pm at the LSSU Arts Center.
This year a portion of the Silent Auction proceeds will support the Sault Area Public Schools Student in Transition-Homeless Program
Events of the evening will include:
- Musical selections by the LSSU Musical Program at 7:00 pm
- Dance Performances by the LSSU Dance Program at 7:30 pm
- Photo opportunities with Santa for children at 7:00 pm
- Silent Auction Bidding throughout the evening.
Any size style of artificial tree, wreaths, or baskets should be brought to the LSSU Arts Center all this week. LSSU Dance Company members will be on site to help contributors. Trees can be decorated on site in the lobby at that time. The lobby is monitored by video cameras.
Each tree can be decorated at your discretion including lights, ornaments, etc. Please provide your own, clearly marked extension cords. Clubs, organizations, businesses, or individuals may promote their businesses, and use any taseteful ideas/themes. Any size tree, wreath, or basket is welcome. Contributors will receive a certificate of recognition and a sign will be posted to identify your contribution.
All trees and wreaths will be on display and may be bid on from November 19-December 6, 2013 until 9:00 pm when winners are announced.

LSSU Dance Company Audition Results for 2013
"This group of dancers is very focused, dedicated to the program and
everyone works very well together. I am thrilled with the enthusiam
and support each member has for each other. We can only grow and
excel with such dedication and coorperation," says Dance Company director and adviser Professor Deborah Choszczyk.
All members are already busy taking bi-weekly technique classes and
rehearsing for upcoming dance events. They recently participated in
the Rock and Walk Against Bullying event at City Hall, and they will be
volunteering at the Chamber Chase and performing during the LSSU Fall
The dancers were asked to perform at Northern Michigan University in October, local churches in
November and will be sponsoring their third Festival of Trees on
campus December 6 in addition to other events.

Members of the LSSU Dance Company appeared at the Sault Ste. Marie, MI Sidewalk Sales dancing every hour on the hour, as well as selling popcorn and flowers to help raise funds for LSSU professor and dance company adviser Deborah Choszczyk.

Superior Central School
Members of the LSSU Dance Company visited Superior Central School last month demonstrating Latin Ballroom Dance to about 30 high school Spanish students. Under the direction of Prof. Deborah Choszczyk, Angelica Salas, Kaiti Dickenshied, Susan Drockton, Kitty Drockton and Dan Walker helped demonstrate the proper techniques!
Eisenhower Dance Ensemble Dance Workshop
Three members of the LSSU Dance Company traveled to Marquette to participate in the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble Dance Workshop September 14 and 15. Afterwards, LSSU dancers along with 16 other dancers from the Marquette community learned a jazz dance in 2 hours and performed during the evening EDE Show. Haiti Relief Effort
On Sunday, May 2, 2010, 85 boxes of goods collected for the people of Haiti left LSSU. Supported by members and friends of the LSSU Dance Company, the goods were collected, sorted, packed and carried into a U-Haul Truck. The truck was then driven to Virginia by Dance Company Director, Deborah Choszczyk and her husband Dan. There they palletized all the boxes, preparing them to be picked up and taken to the Royal Caribbean dock for departure to Haiti. According to Royal Caribbean International Cruise Lines, all five pallets arrived safe and sound and with the peoples thanks!
Highlights of a brand new class in the Dance Minor Program at LSSU, “Creative Movement for Elementary Educators”. Each week LSSU students worked directly with children from Washington Elementary, Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Their final, a Movement/Dance Production using all 200 children on stage at LSSU. The shirts for the children were provided by Michaels of Marquette, MI and the print provided by All-Star Graphics of Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
Boyne Concord Academy
Boyne Concord Academcy, a LSSU Charter School, visited campus in November 2009. Eleven talented students participated in a ballet class in the morning and a modern dance class in the afternoon.
