Additional Scholarships for Incoming Freshmen
The Financial Aid Office may consider
incoming students for these
scholarships if they are admitted
by March 1st for the following
academic year. Some endowed
and academic department awards
may be made earlier and it is to
the student’s advantage to apply
for admission earlier than March
1st. These scholarships may replace
and/or upgrade other LSSU
scholarships. Students may choose
any degree program to be considered
for these scholarships unless
specifically listed in the scholarship
description.

- Must meet one or more of the following qualifications:
- Be a biological child, adopted child, step-child, or grandchild of a Steelworkers participating employee* with three or more years of both service and contributions who are currently working for Lake Superior State University. The employee must be an active contributor* to the LSSU Support Staff Endowed Award fund
- i. Eligible participating employees* are only limited to nominating or sponsoring by the number of children or grandchildren currently accepted/enrolled at LSSU at the time of nomination.
- Be a child, adopted child, step-child, or grandchild of participating retirees* with three or more years of both service and contributions to the fund. The retiree must be an active contributor* to the LSSU Support Staff Endowed Award fund
- Be a child, adopted child, step-child, or grandchild of a voluntarily terminated, laid-off, employee with at least three years of both service and contributions and must be an active contributor* to the LSSU Support Staff Endowed Award fund.
- Be a child, adopted child, step-child, or grandchild of a deceased participant with at least three years of both service and contributions to the LSSU Support Staff Endowed Award fund for children or grandchildren to be eligible.
- Must submit a minimum 1 page but no more than 3 page biographical essay.
- This award is non-renewable; however, past recipients are encouraged to reapply each year.

An active contributor or participating member means a person who is currently contributing at least $100 per calendar year including those voluntarily terminated, laid-off, or retired.
(The $100 per year for three years is waived if the participating member donates $450 in one year to satisfy the three-year rule.)
(If any eligible participant gives $3,000 over the course of any period,
they are eligible to sponsor by maintaining an active status of one
dollar per year.)
