Title: Director of Retention and Academic Advising
 
Function and Responsibility
The Director of Retention and Academic Advising reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Services and assumes a leadership role in the development of a culture of retention on campus. Coordination of activity and effort is required with other offices including Academic Services, Student Affairs, Residential Life and Academic Administration. Integration of programming with Admissions, Financial Aid, Registration Orientation is a necessary component for success within the Enrollment Services Division.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
Chair the Retention Committee to insure coordination of retention planning across campus offices.

Implement, coordinate, and evaluate Early Identification Systems to connect students who are in academic jeopardy with the appropriate support systems.

Coordinate, develop,plan and implement Academic Advisor development programs and materials. These may include workshops, training materials and the maintenance of on-line advising support materials.

Lead the Orientation Program in close collaboration with Enrollment Services offices, Student Affairs, Residential Life, Academic Affairs and other offices to insure successful transitions for new students.

Be an advocate for student retention efforts across campus.

Educate campuse colleagues about student retention through the development and distribution of reports, assessments, and other materials.

Prepare appropriate retention data reports and assessment of operations related to orientation, retention, and advising.

Manage the budget for Retention and Advising to ensure effective use of resources.

Supervise Administrative Assistant and Student Orientation staff.

Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in appropriate area. Master's degree preferred. Experience working with retention efforts in higher education; knowledge of issues in academic advising; strong oral and written communication skills; familiarity with retention related data analysis; sense of humor and the ability to work as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment.
 
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks.
