Function and Responsibility
Under the administrative direction of the President, the Vice President is responsible for the development, assessment and improvement of the campus environment and student programs and services. The Vice President has oversight of and is accountable for the administration, supervision, assessment, direction and functions of all departments within the area of student affairs, including: Campus Life, Residence Life and Housing, Food Services, Student Activities and Leadership Development, Service Learning and Volunteer Services, Disability Services, Public Safety, HealthCare Center, Native American Center and Multicultural Affairs, TRIO programs (Upward Bound), GEAR-UP/KCP, Conferences, Intramurals and Club Sports.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide leadership and supervision to the student affairs organization in accordance with university policies and goals; supervise the administration of the offices and departments listed above; work with staff in each area to develop and implement both auxiliary and university budgets. Serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees Student Affairs Committee.

Create and maintain a cultural and social environment calculated to encourage the well-rounded development of individual students; recommend policies for the general student population to the President and the Board of Trustees; work with appropriate administrative staff and student leaders to develop policies and procedures to initiate and maintain defined student government and other student organizations; devise and maintain a system for the administration of student discipline; coordinate and guide student extracurricular activities including Student Government and student organizations and activities.

Assist with research concerning all phases of student life on campus, including attrition, and devise and/or recommend programs based on this research; advise and assist students who seek assistance with problems of redress of grievances both within and outside the academic community.

Work with Public Safety to develop and implement all appropriate practices and plans to maximize safety on campus.

Work with Physical Plant to develop and implement programs and projects that maintain and improve the facilities associated with housing, food services and the campus center.

Primary liaison with KCP state offices regarding KCP grant programs in place at the university.

Provide support to Enrollment Management as it applies to retention, recruitment and orientation efforts.

Provide support to the LSSU Foundation as needed for alumni activity and development efforts.

Serve as a member of the President's Cabinet, advising the President in all matters relating to the student affairs departments. Prepare reports and recommendations as needed or required. As requested by the president, participate on campus committees and represent the university to off-campus constituencies.

Perform related duties as assigned.

 
Qualifications
Doctoral degree in an appropriate discipline required; Seven to ten years of progressively responsible student affairs related experience; demonstrated record of strong managerial and collegial leadership; knowledge of administrative support areas including fiscal, human resources, legal, assessment issues; record of student advocacy and diversity promotion. Also desired is experience with long-range planning, budget development, auxiliary management and an understanding of student development theory.
 
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with data; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks.
