The goal of the Learning Center's tutoring program is to enhance students' abilities to master difficult material in a personal and technologically supported environment. The focus is on student learning and assisting the student with course content via development of study skills, note-taking and test preparation techniques, time management/organizational skills, and other academic success strategies. Our tutors work with students to help them achieve academic independence.
The tutoring program provides individual and small-group tutoring for many 000-, 100-, and 200-level courses. If a tutor is unavailable at the time of student inquiry, we do our best to locate a tutor or some other form of academic assistance that will benefit the student. For more information on setting up an appointment, click here... Appointments.
Our tutoring program is certified at the regular and advanced levels by
the College Reading and Learning Association's International Tutor Certification
Program which requires extensive tutor training (minimum 10 hours). Our
tutors must be enrolled full-time at LSSU, carry at least a 3.0 GPA, have
successfully completed the courses to be tutored, and receive the professor's
recommendation to tutor each course. If you are interested in becoming a
tutor, a printable tutor application form (pdf) is available in HTML format.
