Services
Interlibrary Loan
The library offers an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service for patrons who
need books or other materials not in the library collection. These
materials are borrowed from other libraries which either mail or fax
them. Simply complete the Interlibrary Loan forms (yellow for magazine
articles; blue for books) and turn them in at the Circulation Desk.
Ask library staff for help in locating and completing forms. ILL
requests can also be made electronically from FirstSearch databases;
from other databases using the “Search for Fulltext” link and then
selecting the Alternate Method; and books can be ordered using MeLCat
(must be currently registered library patron).
ILL is free for LSSU students, faculty and staff in most cases. All
other patrons are assessed a processing fee of $5.00 per item requested
and limited to fifteen requests per year. In the case of costly ILL
requests, patrons may be charged up to $5.00 per item if there are
additional charges.
The Library will inform patrons by email or a local telephone call when
their ILL requests are received. Patrons without email or a local
phone number should check periodically at the Circulation Desk, either
in person or by phone (906-635-2815).
Although the ILL Department works quickly to process orders, receipt of
ILL materials is dependent on the response time from the lending
library, the mail, etc. Orders may be filled in as short a time as a
few days, but may take up to two weeks.
