Exposure to different experiences at Lake Superior State University helped me to learn and decide what I wanted to do with my life. There were many opportunities to help my learning experience, including day and weekend trips to various geological sites. It wasn’t all travel though; there was lots of hands-on experience that helped demonstrate what we learned in lectures.

Favorite thing about Lake State:

I love how close campus is to Canada! It's so cool to be able to go to another country whenever I want.

Best thing about going to school in Sault Ste. Marie:

All the boats that go through the Locks are cool. I love hearing a boat off in the distance at night.

What are some “Words of Wisdom” you would give to new LSSU Students?

Get out there and explore. Get involved. Do something you've never done before. Who knows? It might be your new favorite thing!

Favorite Thing to do in the Soo:

Hang out with my friends or go for walks down by the Soo Locks.

What made Rachel's Lake Superior State experience so unique was the practical research she did with top-notch faculty.

"I really enjoyed working with environmental chemistry professor Judy Westrick and biologist Deb Stai," Rachel says. "For my senior project, we evaluated a lab method for cultivating a fungus that causes infections in humans."
