"LSSU has a great reputation for placing students in graduate and professional schools. Many of my classmates from LSSU are now pursuing graduate and professional studies at some of the finest universities in Canada and the United States."

"The student-faculty interaction and the ability to conduct research at the undergraduate level really helped me to achieve success in a competitive graduate program. My professors at LSSU were always interested in helping us succeed."

Luke Fera of Sault Ste. Marie graduated from LSSU in 2006 with a degree in biology and is now working toward a master's degree in epidemiology at University of Western Ontario in London. He plans to continue his studies in the medical sciences.

Favorite thing about Lake State:

At Lake State, it is easy to get to know everyone and for good friendships to begin all while we are moving forward in our education.

Best thing about going to school in Sault Ste. Marie:

It's easy to get away for any amount of time. Being so close to the water in the warm weather or the trails during the winter, you can escape from school if you want.

What are some “Words of Wisdom” you would give to new LSSU Students?

Take advantage of all of the activities going on around campus.

Favorite Thing to do in the Soo:

I would say my favorite thing to do in the Soo is water sports on the river or the near by lakes.

"Lake Superior State is the only robotics program of its kind in the country. I can work up any research or senior project idea with a professor or my advisor. I studied for a year in Japan through LSSU's connection with the Japan Center for Michigan Universities, and became fluent in Japanese. A Japanese company called Fanuc makes most of the robots in our lab. I'd like to roll my senior research project into a career with Fanuc that bridges the two countries and cultures."
