Student Alumni Involved for Lake State (SAILS)
Honors and Public Recognition
1998-1999 Outstanding Program of the Year
Student Alumni Involved for Lake State (SAILS) has been honored for their efforts with Great Lake State Week by the Association of Student Advancement Programs (ASAP).
The group was presented with one of four Outstanding Program of the Year honors at the recent ASAP convention in Chicago. Great Lake State Week was initiated last year to create a tradition of homecoming for the campus community. This is the second award the group has received for the project. Earlier this year, SAILS received the ASAP District 5 Program of the Year Award.
Great Lake State Week was comprised of 14 different events that involved more than a dozen campus organizations. 1999 was the first year that a series of events were pulled together to serve as a homecoming week at Lake State. SAILS coordinated the event through the Alumni Relations office.
"This honor belongs to the entire campus," says Jennifer Drogowski, president-elect of SAILS. "There were so many people and different groups involved that is was a true Lake State project. We're pretty proud to have played a part in getting the week off the ground."
Mark Jastorff, director of University and Alumni Relations, received honors as 1999 Advisor of the Year from ASAP as well. He was 1998 ASAP District 5 Outstanding Advisor as well.
"The award really belongs to SAILS. They work hard and we have a lot of fun while promoting the University. I want to thank each student as well as Kari, my wife, who has been very supportive of the extra time that we all give to Lake State," says Jastorff.
