Student Alumni Involved for Lake State (SAILS)
Honors and Public Recognition
1998-1999 District 5 Outstanding Program of the Year
Lake Superior State University's Great Lake State Week programming has been honored by the District 5 Student Alumni Association/Student Foundation Network. The Network presented the 1999 Outstanding Program of the Year award to Student Alumni Involved for Lake State (SAILS) during the recent district convention held at the University of Iowa. District 5 includes colleges and universities from Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Great Lake State Week was comprised of 14 different events that involved more than a dozen campus organizations. 1999 was the first year that a series of events were pulled together to serve as a homecoming week at Lake State. SAILS coordinated the event through the Alumni Relations office.
"This honor belongs to the entire campus," says Jennifer Drogowski, president-elect of SAILS. "There were so many people and different groups involved that is was a true Lake State project. We're pretty proud to have played a part in getting the week off the ground."
Great Lake State Week was one of five projects considered. Also nominated were The Ohio State University, University of Wisconsin-Platteville, University of Iowa, and Northwestern University. This marks the third major award for SAILS in the last two years. Last year, Holly Julian was named both the District and Network Outstanding Student Leader Award and Mark Jastorff was tabbed District 5 Advisor of the Year.
