Elaina Marinik

My education at Lake State taught me not only the basics of exercise science and health and wellness but prepared me for my future research career. I became involved in national organizations, improved my networking skills to create working relationships, and ended up with an amazing paid internship that turned into a 3-year research professional position at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. Now in graduate school pursuing a doctorate degree at Virginia Tech, I rely on the knowledge I acquired at Lake State and put it to practice daily while discussing health-related topics in class or conducting obesity and inflammation research in our laboratory.

Academic Advising

Opportunity: "Bridging the gap between students, faculty & staff, and effective academic advising"

Strategy: The implementation of Web for Faculty and Advisors© and Web for Students©* is intended to enhance the current advising system at LSSU. This self-service solution provides faculty, staff and students with secure, virtually anytime-anywhere access to information necessary to manage courses, to advise students, and (for students) to manage and take ownership for their personal accounts and information. The "Web for" products offer 1) easy-to-read and easy-to-navigate screens that do not require knowledge of special codes; 2) up-to-date teaching and student schedules, as well as course information; 3) easy-to-access student contact information, degree audits, transcripts; 4) online grading, registration, billing and more.
