Lake State hosts U.S., Canada regional security conference

HORSEPOWER TO GO – Law enforcement officials mingle around a 40-foot fast response boat fitted out with four, 300-horsepower outboard motors. The craft belonged to U.S. Homeland Security, one of a dozen federal, state, provincial, and local fire and law enforcement agencies from both sides of the St. Mary's river that attended an area maritime security conference hosted by Lake Superior State University on July 19. Agencies took the opportunity to examine equipment and resources available for regional emergencies. (LSSU/John Shibley)

The 51st, based out of Augusta, Mich., offers, among other resources, one-stop emergency mobile communication services to first responders under the auspices of the Michigan National Guard.
