SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Thousands of dollars were raised for Lake Superior State University's men's basketball program during the Bud Cooper Memorial Golf Classic held June 14 at Wild Bluff in Bay Mills, Mich. Friends and alumni of LSSU came from as far away as Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Washington state to participate in the third-annual fundraiser.
The “Cooper Classic” is named in honor of Ronald “Bud” Cooper, the late Laker student-athlete, coach, and athletic director. Cooper devoted hours of his time since retirement in 1986 to raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to support athletics, scholarships, and renovation initiatives at Lake State.
This year's Classic was a three-person scramble that included a Million Dollar Shot contest and other special events. Current members of the Laker men’s basketball team greeted all golfers and assisted on the course with their putting skills.

Second Flight results were Kyle Jean, Kory Kaunisto, and Brian Jean in first place; Rob Mackie, Joe Claxton, and Dave Thomas in second; and Dave Copeland, Randy McArthur, John Barton in third.
