THE PASTA ZONE – Lake Superior State University Hockey Lakers Matt Bruneteau (l) and Ian Miller deal homemade Christopher-Columbus-Society spaghetti to Laker Hockey fans during a Sept. 23 United Way benefit dinner in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Players, coaches, and team supporters served up 144 pounds of pasta, six cases of lettuce, 48 loaves of home-baked bread, and 1,695 meatballs to raise more than $1,000 for the United Way of the Eastern Upper Peninsula. The next United Way fundraiser is "Bowl United" at Dondee Lanes on Oct. 12. The Lakers open their home hockey season on Oct. 6 when they host the US National Under 18 team. Bruneteau is a senior defenseman from Omaha, Neb., majoring in exercise science. Miller is a freshman forward from Frasier, Mich., majoring in business administration/management. (LSSU/John Shibley)
