SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- Lake Superior State University’s Dance Company will get the community into the holiday spirit with its third annual Festival of Trees, which is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, in the LSSU Arts Center.

The holiday fundraiser continues to grow each year and features the donation and auction of decorated Christmas trees, as well as refreshments and performances by LSSU dance students. This year, the group will donate a portion of its silent auction proceeds to the Sault Area Public Schools Students in Transition/Homeless Program.

“It has been so nice to see the community support for this annual holiday program,” said Prof. Deborah Choszczyk, who teaches dance at LSSU. “We are pleased to be donating a portion of the proceeds this year to the Sault Schools program for homeless students.

All trees and wreaths will be on display as soon as they are brought in, and they may be bid on through Dec. 6, when the event concludes with winning bids announced at 9 p.m.

“The dance program at LSSU continues to grow and flourish as a result of hard-working, dedicated students who are gaining life experiences not only in dance, but in how to share their talents with dignity and grace while helping others in our community,” Choszczyk added.

Already this school year, the company has participated and performed in programs on the prevention of bullying and domestic violence, hosted a program on breast cancer awareness, served during the annual Downtown Trick and Treat event in Sault Ste. Marie and was featured artists at Northern Michigan University during a fall performance.
