Lake Superior State University is Michigan’s “Most Affordable College” according to study.com. LSSU also placed 14th among the 50 colleges and universities ranked nationwide. The site used data provided by the US Department of Education and the US National Center for Education Statistics.
Factors that contributed to the ranking, according to study.com, were LSSU’s One-Rate at Lake State tuition for students who take anywhere from 12-17 credits per semester, tuition plateau (saving students up to $19,000 over four years), the fact that 85% of students receive either a grant or a scholarship, low room and board, and affordable meal plan options. Study.com rankings focus on quality school programs that provide a high-value education, while still being accessible and affordable.
“We are thrilled to be ranked #1 by Study.com as Michigan’s Most Affordable College.” LSSU President Rodney Hanley remarked. “As college tuition rises nationwide LSSU is making a conscious effort to keep costs down to broaden our reach and ensure that finances never become the deciding factor if a student can attend university.”
Study.com also factors the cost of living, financial aid, scholarships and tuition among its consideration of colleges and universities that offer affordable, quality higher education opportunities. The colleges and universities ranked in this list provide a range of academic degrees, including majors in popular areas such as business, education and nursing.
Other Michigan-based universities to make the study.com top-50 list include University of Michigan-Dearborn (18th), Ferris State University (37th), and Wayne State (47th).
