(Sault Ste. Marie, MI) – Sault Ste. Marie, MI — Lake Superior State University’s Bachelor’s degree programs in Electrical Engineering Technology and Manufacturing Engineering Technology have been re-accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.  This re-accreditation underscores LSSU’s continued commitment to preparing tomorrow’s engineering leaders.

ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

“ABET re-accreditation is external validation by peer evaluators of the high quality of our Engineering Technology programs,” stated LSSU’s Interim President, Dr. Lynn Gillette. “This re-accreditation affirms the excellent quality of our engineering faculty, curriculum, and facilities, and it demonstrates why we are able to provide our engineering students with an extraordinary education.”

The School of Engineering and Technology at Lake Superior State University is well-known for training impactful engineers by focusing on providing top quality education in small-size classes with hands-on learning. Faculty have developed strong ties to many industry partners such as JR Automation, Textron Aviation, and KUKA Robotics, who sponsor projects and provide input on the curriculum. The School offers degrees in other disciplines, from Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, and Robotics Engineering to Mechatronics and more.

Dr. Paul Weber, Chair of the School of Engineering and Technology, states, “Our graduates have a 100% employment rate and typically receive multiple job offers before graduation.  In addition to our senior projects that are often sponsored and completed for our industry partners, there are lab activities for more than 75% of our courses. All engineering students can add a robotics specialization with a state-of-the-art multi-million-dollar robotics lab dedicated to train students.”

Employers of alumni include Kawasaki, ABB, Boeing, JR Automation, Continental Automotive, Ford, Chrysler, and John Deere. LSSU graduates have received their post-graduate degrees from universities, such as Purdue, Notre Dame, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Michigan State University, and Michigan Technological University.

“Our graduating seniors demonstrate command of their disciplines, the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, leadership, and the ability to communicate the intricacies of their work,” said Dr. Kimberly Muller, Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and former dean of the college that houses the engineering technology programs at LSSU. “I’d like to congratulate the engineering faculty on their excellent work of designing and implementing the curriculums and instruction that jumpstart our graduates’ futures.

Lake Superior State University is one of the most affordable public universities in Michigan and was recently recognized as the #1 Top Public School in the Regional Colleges Midwest category.
