Lake Superior State University is seeking proposals for its fifth TEDxLSSU event, to be held in the Shouldice Library on March 22, 2023. LSSU students, staff, community members, and beyond are welcome to apply as a speaker. The theme for TEDxLSSU 2023 is “Identity”; potential speakers should submit proposals that explore innovative ideas worth sharing connected to this larger concept.

Individuals, pairs, or small groups may make presentations. Proposals of no more than 500 words should be submitted via the online Speaker Application at the link below by the end of the business day on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022.  Selected speakers will be contacted by the TEDxLSSU Planning Committee.

LSSU President Dr. Rodney S. Hanley said, “I am excited that we are bringing TEDxLSSU back on campus for the first time since the pandemic. This event showcases the university’s commitment to celebrate the uniqueness of the campus and region. TEDxLSSU is a prime example of the benefits of having a university in your community as it provides an excellent space to bring diverse voices and communities together to explore ideas worth sharing.”

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience under the guidance of the international TED Conference organization. At a TEDx event, TED Talk videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These events are branded TEDx, where x represents an independently-organized TED event.

TED, which started as a conference to bring people together from Technology, Entertainment and Design in 1984, is a nonprofit program devoted to ideas worth spreading. Along with two annual conferences—the TED Conference on the West Coast each spring and the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh UK each summer—TED includes the award-winning TED Talks video site, the Open Translation Project and TED Conversations, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize. TED conferences bring together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes or less.
