** On recommendation by the Chief of Sault Sainte Marie Fire Department based on high wind gusts, Lake Superior State University’s (LSSU) Annual Snowman Burning tradition will be postponed to Thursday, March 21st at 5:30 PM.

(Sault Ste. Marie, MI) – Set against the backdrop of a slightly milder winter, this cherished tradition will take place on March 21st at 5:30 PM, symbolizing the triumph over winter’s battles and the emergence of a brighter season.

This year’s theme, “Flames of Renewal…Blazing a Path to Spring,” resonates with the collective spirit of transformation and optimism within the LSSU community. Despite the challenges faced, the tradition endures, serving as a testament to the University’s resilience.

The winter season may have been a little less harsh, but the annual Snowman Burning tradition persists, illustrating the enduring spirit of LSSU. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community are all invited to partake in this family-friendly event, promising a memorable experience for everyone.

“I am excited to witness this year’s Flames of Renewal Snowman Burning,” said LSSU’s Interim President, Dr. Lynn Gillette. “This tradition goes beyond the battles of winter; it symbolizes our shared resilience and anticipation of warmer days ahead. Join us as we reflect on the past year and collectively blaze a path towards renewal.”

“Nothing says springtime in Sault Sainte Marie better than a scorched snowman,” said Dr. Michael Beazley, LSSU Dean of Student Affairs. “We are blazing a path ahead toward the promise of spring and a moment of significant change in June with LSSU’s new president.”

We invite you to join us March 21st at 5:30 PM on LSSU’s Cisler Patio, to enjoy an evening of music and witness the ‘Flames of Renewal’ illuminate the sky, forging a path towards a brighter, warmer year.

This event is free and open to the public.
